Hopedale

Hopedale began in 1800 as Green. The village was platted in 1849 and officially became Hopedale in 1851.

Clark Gable childhood home. Gable moved to Hopedale in 1903. 197 Mill St. Now a private residence with no public access.
Hopedale Normal College Site. Cyrus McNeely opened first coeducational teachers college in Ohio in 1849. In 1855 George Armstrong Custer enrolled as a student. The elementary school now occupies the site.
