In the fall of 2002 the Wooster Rotary Board of Directors adopted the following statement:

The Rotary Club of Wooster, Ohio, shall focus its resources on improving elementary education with the goal of all fourth grade students passing the reading proficiency test by 2008.

Two Wooster Rotary supported projects have developed independently of each other that share a common goal of improving the early education of Wooster students. One - College is for Me - is working to educate students (starting in early elementary school) in their higher education options. It is designed to encourage students to set high goals and not give up. The second project - Ohio Reads Plus - was started by Rotarian Harry Featherstone and is designed to provide additional support, in the form of mentors, for students in the classroom.

Additional projects to support our goal are under development.
