Meadow of Wild Flowers

by Rachel Keller

With joy, she embarks on the journey

To her secret hiding place.

Purposefully, she climbs the steep hill

Savoring the solitude

Of the early morning hour.

The soft pink hue of the horizon

Fades way to the rising sun.

Slowly it casts its soft morning rays

And reflects the early dew

On the wild flowers below.

She breathes deeply of the morning air

Waft with the scent of wild flowers.

The sweet songs of the birds above.

Beckon her to come explore

The vast untamed wild meadow.

She likes to pretend that no one

Knows about this secret place,

Except the birds, bees, and wild flowers;

They share her secret so well--

The solitude of this place.

In the midst of the flowers, she kneels--

Her head deep in the blossoms.

The rainbow of colors around her

Swaying gently in the cool breeze

Envelope her huddled form.

She chooses flowers for a bouquet:

Rich reds, bright yellows and blues.

With this rainbow of colors in hand,

She leaves her meadow of delight,

But she will return again.
