How to get paid by E-zines on the Internet and magazines in print
by Katherine West
I have a few tips about HOW to sell those articles to magazines. First of all, buy all the magazines for writers. For example: The Writer, or Poets & Writers, Writer's Digest, and other trade journals. You can find these in the magazine and news section of any bookstore. Start reading these gems, so that you can sell what you write.
You should also peruse pages just like these pages at this web site, so that you become familiar with what is out there. See what publishers are buying. Are they interested in free verse more than fixed verse? (That is a no-brainer) Are the publishers looking for short plays? Find out what new contests are over the next horizon. There is a treasure trove to be discovered here. You will get tips on writing of course, but there is much, much more. You will learn where to sell specialized articles. You can find addresses of hundreds of magazines like golf magazines, bowling magazines, Internet magazines, etc.
Don't be afraid of email. Why? This is for the simple fact that the best job sources are usually newsletters and newsgroups for writers. To get a detailed list of these, subscribe to the last issue of The Write Site and immediately you will be sent the latest newsletter with thousands of jobs and countless writing lists, including job listings for writers.
Also, the Internet is another source of many publishers willing to publish your work in anything from Anthologies to E-zines. Do many Internet searches for poetry publishers, prose publishers, magazines, and e-zines too. **Always be sure to check additional web sites at the bottom of the search window.** My personal favorite search is google.com. Dogpile.com is good too. This is for the simple fact that they search several different databases.
Before submitting, familiarize yourself with the ezine or magazine. Also read some of the content before submitting. This is possibly the most important thing that any writer must do. Pay very careful attention to the guidelines. Word count, deadlines, and query information MUST be followed to the letter.
Should I be giving away all these tips? Why, of course, we are fellow writers! Now start clicking those keys, guys:)

Do You need HTML help or free software? Here is just the thing you should read!
Need a little help with HTML? There are some free solutions:
After you learn the basics, then you really should get an HTML editor. There are many brands to choose from that you can get for free. Free software is referred to as freeware. Trial software is referred to as shareware- you can try shareware for 30 or 60 days before purchasing, but sometimes there are limited features.
Where can I get free HTML editors?
You probably already have one. If you use either Microsoft IE or Netscape as a web browser, you have an html editor built into your software. The best places to look for both FREE and HTML editors that you can purchase are below:
http://www.tucows.com
First you will select the area that you
live, and then your operating system, and then the type of software that you need. (If
this is confusing, just enter HTML editor into any search box.)
http://zdnet.com
This is a very user-friendly site that
offers many different freeware and shareware programs.

The New Top Level
Domains: Sex Lies and Domain Extensions
By Katherine West
Interliant Domain Registration
Have you heard about the new domain name extensions? These new extensions could be just the answer for writers! I am talking about .Pro, .Aero, .Biz, .Coop, .Info, .Museum, and .Name, and others. This article was written as a warning to all the consumers out there, in hopes that no one will be fooled.
The following new Domain Name extensions have been accepted and approved by ICANN:
.biz .pro .web .name/.nom/.per .health .geo .union .museum .info .air .one .co-op .post .event
Each of these extensions has a purpose, and not all of them are available to the general public. For example, the .pro extension is reserved for professionals. Likewise, the .biz extension will be only for business sites.
Some web domain companies are telling customers that they can pre-register for them now. This just isn't true. Various web host providers are trying to get a jump on the competition by lying to people. These same companies are also telling customers that they will be able to reserve or purchase top level domains like .org, .com, and others in the same manner because of the possible new changes in ICANN policies on top level domains. This isn't true either.
Yes, these new extensions are going to revolutionize the Internet and make searching for content SUPER easy, but they will be released to all web hosting companies and the general public at the very same time. Do not be fooled by Internet scams! If you are determined to be first, I have an idea that might help.. You could try setting your clock to the same zone as ICANN. Other than that, there is no way to insure an edge on your competition.
THE FACTS from ICANN:
These new Domain Name extensions can not be registered or reserved at this time. ICANN is not currently accepting any form of reservation or registration, despite what other companies in the domain business may be saying.
Consumer Warning:
Don't be fooled by offers from various web companies that tell you that they can register or reserve these Domain extensions now. This is not even possible. The new extensions will be made available to the public through all registrars at the same time.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, scam artists are taking advantage of the news that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will make new top level domains available to the public.
The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) says that consumers are getting fax and email solicitations that offer chances at buying new top level domain names for a fees. They are telling customers that as soon as it becomes available they will own the domain. This is NOT true. Some very unscrupulous registration services are guaranteeing new top level domain names or promising preferential treatment in the registration process.
The agency cautions that these offers are premature. Since ICANN has not yet begun acceptance of the new extension registrations, this is misleading to consumers. It is misrepresentation to offer pre-registration or accept fees for domain name assignment prior to the official registration date assigned by ICANN.
The Federal Trade Commission says that if ICANN decides to add top level domain names (domains like .org, .com and .net) to the mix, there most likely will be set rules about their availability and assignment to ensure fair access by all.
The FTC advises consumers to protect themselves by doing the following:
1.Avoid any domain name pre-registration service that asks for up-front fees, guarantees particular top level domain names or preferential treatment in the assignment of new top level domain names.
2.Avoiding doing business with people who send unsolicited faxes - regardless of the offer. Unsolicited faxes are illegal.
How to Stay Informed on Availability:
In order to stay informed on upcoming
availability of access to these domain names, you can find additional information at the
ICANN web site:
http://www.icann.org/tlds/
I hope that this news update has helped save you both time and money.
