How many people race sailboats in the US?

The answer cannot be defined due to several factors including most sailboat clubs do not publish their membership list and there are quite alot of foreign racers to add to the list. There are quite a few small association that have closed memberships and do not publish. Non motored sailboats do not require registration. The number of sailboats that exist in the US would be hard to estimate.
