What does "Grape Nuts" mean?
From: "Geoffrey Ludwig"
I am wondering why there is a cereal of wheat and barley called
Grape Nuts. What the heck is it supposed to mean? Why the heck is it
called Grape Nuts if it doesn't have grapes or nuts? How in the heck
did Charles W. Post come up with that name?
Well... heres another question that we have
received an alarming amount of answers for. Here is what everyone
has thought out and well researched.
Jennifer was the first to turn in her homework,
here's what she sent us:
Answer to your Grape Nut nut.........C.W. Post came
up the name because the cereal contained maltose, which he thought
was "grape sugar" and because the distinctive flavor reminded him of
nuts.
Todd decided he wanted to share his thoughts and
views with us:
The name "Grape-Nuts" has nothing to do with
the cereal itself. The name is implying that you can eat Grape-Nuts
with grapes or nuts. Its like putting strawberries in your cereal.
Anni decided that instead of writing us, she would just send us a
website so check it out.

This unique, naturally sweet cereal was created in 1897. C.W. Post
came up the name because the cereal contained maltose, which he
thought was "grape sugar" and because the distinctive flavor
reminded him of nuts.
