CHARLIE WINS LAKEVILLE TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP !!!

"It was the best possible way to end an already great season," stated a happy Charlie Duncan after securing his first career track championship title. Charlie won the highly competitive Lakeville Speedway points championship over a highly competitive field of dirt Late Models.

"If someone would have told me five years ago I’d be track champion at Lakeville in 1999 I would have said, ‘Yeah, right’," commented Charlie.

Charlie’s prestigious championship title came well earned as the popular driver scored four wins at Lakeville Speedway during 1999 including the track’s headlining "OHIO DIRT BLOWOUT" event.

Never one to chase points, this past season Charlie and team manager Jeff Drown set their sites on the Lakeville and came up big winners in a close points race with Mark Uhler and defending track champion JimCushing.

For 2000 Charlie is undecided whether or not to defend his title and chase points again. "That has never been my goal," said Charlie. "I only want to do my best race by race and not focus on a whole season, because too many things can change."

But still, winning the Lakeville track title is quite an accomplishment, especially considering the history and heritage of the facility as being a "star-maker" track.

Charlie and the team were honored on Saturday December 11, 1999 at the Lakeville Speedway Awards Banquet and given his trophy, points money and others honors from Lakeville owner Bob Schippers and promoter Paul Willis.

1999 SUCCESSFUL YEAR

During 1999 Charlie and the team had a very good year. In addition to their 4 big wins at Lakeville, Charlie also won a feature race at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville,OH, one of the state’s most competitive tracks for dirt Late Models where they average 40 Late Models a night.

Charlie and the team also did their share of traveling in ’99. They hit the road and competed in several STARS National Dirtcar Racing League , including events at Muskingum County Speedway, KC Raceway , Wayne County Speedway and Portsmouth Raceway Park in Ohio. The team also made trips to the DIRT TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in West Virginia and the newly reopened Cannonball Speedway in St. Clairsville,OH.

CHARLIE BACK TO ROCKET

For the 2000 season Charlie and the team will be in a new Rocket Chassis that was recently delivered to the team’s shop in Wooster,OH. And Charlie is excited about being in a new 2000 Rocket Chassis. "They (Rocket) are good to work with," said Charlie. "Someone is always there to answer any questions we have or to send parts before the next race."

The team will also have a Malcuit Racing Engine under the hood of the #17 once again. Charlie believes in their dependability and horsepower. He plans no changes with his winning formula.

CHARLIE SAYS THANKS!

Charlie’s successful year came about from his sponsors and the many efforts put forth by his team, including Team Co-Owners JEFF DROWN and ERIC MYERS of CRM. Also helping to make 1999 a championship year were the rest of the team, Bruce Sidel, Danny Drown, Doug Drown and Jon Varnes. Week in and week out these fellows worked long hours to ensure that Charlie ran up front.

TV COVERAGE COMING!

Look for the D-M-D Racing #17 Rocket Chassis to be on television in 2000. During the 2000 season selected events at Lakeville Speedway will be filmed and televised over WMFD Channel 68 of Mansfield,OH. This will help us to give even more exposure and coverage for our sponsors and team. Stay tuned to future editions of our newsletter for more information!

2000 BEING PLANNED !

Charlie, Jeff, Eric and the team are starting to plan the 2000 season. While nothing is confirmed, the team plans to race at tracks like Lakeville, Wayne County, Muskingum, Midway, Portsmouth and many other facilities. The team is also planning on racing at some high profile national sanctioned races with STARS National Dirtcar Racing League and the MACS Late Model Series. Another possibility might be the Hav-A-Tampa sanctioned Late Model race at the Bristol Motor Speedway, one of NASCAR’s most exciting tracks. "I would like to be the first Late Model driver to win on dirt at Bristol," explained Charlie. As for 2000, at this time, Charlie says "We’ll go with the flow and schedule similar as we did last year. One weekend at a time!
